Akshaya Patra started its operations with a pilot project of 1500 children. Now Akshaya Patra foundation has grow to a huge organization were in its feeding 1.2 million children every school day to the under privileged children.
Akshaya Patra has now reached 8 states across India, and has spread its operation around 17 locations where they have set up centralized and de centralized kitchens.
Akshaya Patra caters to the government school children who are not from well settled or a very good background family.
Many of these children belong to the families of cobblers, rag pickers etc, where the daily income of the entire family is 50 to 100 rupees per day.
The children in these families are forced to quit their education due to lack of financial support. Akshaya Patra’s mission has brought many such children back to school by giving them the incentive of food, where their dreams are full filled and they get hot, nutritious, unlimited meal served at the lunch time every day , these children get unlimited food regularly. It did not even happen in a blue moon that children went home empty stomach.
Akshaya Patra has been successful for an extent to reduce dropout’s rate in the school.
